Cardinal Parolin visits Denmark

The Vatican Secretary of State is visiting Denmark as Papal Legate for the 1,200th anniversary of the beginning of Saint Ansgar’s mission. His programme also includes diplomatic meetings, among them visits with King Frederik X and Foreign Minister Rasmussen.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, is in Denmark from Saturday, 24 January, until 26 January, serving as Papal Legate for the 1,200th anniversary of the beginning of Saint Ansgar’s mission in the Nordic country. According to the programme published on the Secretariat of State’s X account, @TerzaLoggia, the visit will conclude on Monday.

Vespers and ecumenical encounters

Saturday’s programme includes participation in ecumenical Vespers at Copenhagen’s Lutheran Cathedral (Vor Frue Domkirke), followed by meetings with diplomats and leaders of other Christian communities.

On Sunday, 25 January, Cardinal Parolin will visit the Sankt Josefs Karmel monastery in Hillerød, meet the Benedictine Sisters of Vor Frue Kloster in Birkerød, and preside at Mass in St Ansgar’s Cathedral in Copenhagen, marking the anniversary celebrations.

Diplomatic meetings

On Monday, 26 January, the Secretary of State will pay a courtesy visit to King Frederik X of Denmark at Amalienborg Palace. He will then meet Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at Eigtveds Pakhus, before concluding his visit with a stop at the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Vedbæk.
