Cardinal Nichols calls for a fresh start after UK General Election

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales releases a statement following the UK General Election, urging the people of Great Britain to look beyond politics for a fresh start.

In his statement, Cardinal Nichols writes that "this result offers a fresh start”, urging for it to be “fresh in more ways than politics”.

Acknowledging that “a lot of damage has been done in the last few years”, Cardinal Nichols urges the people of Great Britain to put the “toxic” atmosphere that has predominated “behind us”.

"As we approach Christmas”, he continues, a time in which we celebrate the birth of Christ, we must see and rediscover “that streak of goodness written in every person”.

The Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster writes that "concentrating on the good of the other" is "the new beginning that we should seek".
