European Christian communicators from ECIC visit Vatican media

The theme of this year's ECIC conference is “From Prompts to Prayers: Artificial Intelligence and Authentic Spirituality.” Taking place at Casa La Salle in Rome, the European Christian Internet Conference is an ecumenical network that brings together Christian leaders, digital experts, theologians, and representatives of churches and church-related organizations from across Europe.
The goal of ECIC, currently chaired by Agnieszka Godfrejów-Tarnogórska, spokesperson for the Lutheran Church in Poland, is to reflect together on how digital technologies can support and shape Christian communication, witness, and evangelization in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
According to the organizers, the annual conference “brings together around 30 participants representing a wide range of Christian traditions and European contexts, fostering in-depth exchange, mutual learning, and ecumenical dialogue. Two of the previous twenty-nine ECIC conferences were held in Rome, in 2005 and 2012.”
As part of the conference, participants visited the Dicastery for Communication at Palazzo Pio. They engaged in a discussion about the challenges facing the Holy See’s media with Deputy Editorial Director Alessandro Gisotti, who also explained how Vatican Radio, Vatican News, and L’Osservatore Romano are covering Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey underway in Spain.
Following a discussion in the Sala Marconi, ECIC members were given a tour of the production control rooms and were able to observe firsthand how Vatican media are reporting on the papal visit, right at the time Pope Leo arrived for his pastoral visit to the Canary Islands.
During the visit with Vatican media, Monsignor Lucio Adrian Ruiz, Secretary of the Dicastery for Communication, delivered a presentation to ECIC on artificial intelligence in light of Pope Leo's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas.
