Pope to young people: Make peace with someone this Christmas

Pope Leo XIV greets several young members of the Italian Catholic Action, and invites them to make peace with somebody close to them before Christmas, emphasizing that peace is built starting from our daily relationships.

Pope Leo has encouraged young people belonging to the Italian Catholic Action association to make peace with someone close to them before Christmas, highlighting that peace is more precious than any store-bought gift.

“We all desire this peace for nations wounded by conflict, but let us remember that harmony and respect begin in our daily relationships, in the gestures and words we exchange at home, at the parish, with schoolmates, in sports,” he said on Friday, as he met with the group and their leaders.

The Pope underlined that the birth of Christ—“Prince of Peace,” as he is called in the Book of Isaiah—reveals the true meaning of this word, “which is not merely the absence of war, but friendship among peoples based on justice.”

Peace is a “gift that can truly only be found in the heart,” he continued, adding that promoting it is “a ‘Catholic action’ par excellence, because it is the gesture that makes us witnesses of Jesus, the Redeemer of the world.”

Pray before Nativity scene to be able to spread peace

In his speech, the Pope emphasized that, in looking at the various figures present in the Nativity scenes that may have been set up in homes, schools, and parishes, young people can see how “around the Lord, who became man to save us, there is room for everyone!”

“There is room for everyone” is also the 2025 theme of the Catholic Action’s youth groups. The Lord “makes room for every person, every child, teenager, young person, and elderly person,” the Pope insisted.

“When the Son of God comes into the world, He doesn’t find room in a house, but knocks on our hearts just as He opens His own to welcome everyone with love.”

Look to Sts. Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati

Pope Leo XIV then invited young people of Catholic Action to ask to be like the angels who proclaim God’s glory and peace to all when they pray before the Nativity scenes.

“This peace is the commitment of every person of good will, and especially of us Christians, who are called not only to be good, but to become better every day,” the Pope pointed out.

He called on young people to follow the example of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, who was a member of Catholic Action, and St. Carlo Acutis.

“By acting like them, your proclamation of peace will be radiant, because in the company of Jesus you will be truly free and happy, ready to reach out to your neighbor, especially those in need,” he said.
